Taego also has a new mechanic called Comeback BR that will allow players who are eliminate during the first Blue Zone a chance at redemption. For instance, the game’s new self-revive item, which allows downed players to get themselves up, is very different from anything the battle royale game has offered so far. Image: PUBG Studiosīut while its size might be in line with that of traditional PUBG maps, a few of Taego’s other features are totally new for the game. Even more importantly, for all the players that have missed PUBG’s larger maps, Taego has tons of open ground to fight over.

The map is full of villages, towns, and even a maximum-security prison for players to explore. PUBG in-game unit lead Taehyun Kim said in an email interview with Polygon that the goal of this map was to show players the beauty of Korea, especially around the 1980s and ’90s. Taego is an 8-km-by-8-km map set in the Korean countryside. The new map, Taego, is part of the game’s 12.2 update, which also adds a self-revive item, a mini-battle royale to get you back into a match after you die, and dozens of other changes. While the first part of PUBG's 2021 Dev Plan is focused on the new maps, the second part will be shared in the near future and will showcase many of the core gameplay and service updates fans can look forward to this year.PUBG is back with its first new map in a while, and it’s set in Korea. You still got to get to the end, you still got to kick a lot of ass, and you still gotta get those headshots, but the things you can do in the downtime, the way you can explore, the ways you can traverse, will be new." "That is the mission statement of Kiki – deeper and more immersive - and it gives you a much wider range of things to try. "This is going to be a Battleground that is much more of a living, feral, hostile world, and less a playground," Curd said. "Ĭodename: Kiki is another 8x8 map that is planned for late 2021/early 2022, and it will boast a "diverse set of locations, from mysterious underground labs to massive skyscrapers to swampland to subways to underwater buildings." This will be the most exploration-focused Battleground yet, showcasing many of the gameplay innovations the team has been working on, but aren't quite ready to talk about. While respawn is really exciting, I’m just as excited for this new setting, the beautiful fall color, the novel architecture, and more. They really wanted to honor their homeland and show off a version of their world that isn’t traditionally seen in games. "It’s their biggest game of all time, so there’s this real patriotic pride they have in this game. "For those of our readers and viewers that might not be aware, PUBG is a triumph of Korean game development," Curd explained. While that’s an exciting addition, one of the things Curd and the team are most proud about in regards to Codename: Tiger is that it is based on Korea. While the team isn't quite ready to talk about how respawning will work, it should be a welcome change for those who love a second chance. Games like Call of Duty: Warzone have given players the ability to come back to life after an initial defeat, and now PUBG is testing that out in Codename: Tiger. While the Quad and the Lynx AMR will only be available on Miramar, Curd said they may make their way to other maps if people like them enough.Ĭodename: Tiger Is a Map That Honors PUBG's Korean History and Allows for RespawnsĬodename: Tiger will be the first new 8x8 Battleground in three years that not only will be home to PUBG's first respawn feature, but will also honor PUBG's Korean history. Curd even teased that it can penetrate a BRDM's windshield and headshot a player that is usually well-protected. This is a crate-only weapon that won't spawn often and only has 5 rounds, but it is capable of vaporizing a player or blowing up a vehicle with just a few shots. There will also be a new sniper called the Lynx AMR, which is short for Lynx Anti-Material Rifle. While it has a relatively low top speed, it has "insane acceleration, insane off-road handling, and a crazy turn radius." Curd called it a "stunt machine," and it even allows players to perform emote stunts while riding it. Miramar will also be getting a new vehicle in the Quad - PUBG's take on the ATV. The team has also created more exit points in buildings, and this will hopefully encourage more exploration as "you'll be able to get out of the blue zones no matter how they break." For example, the legacy bunker in the southeastern quadrant of the map has been "totally redone to better reflect the story we wanted to tell," which appears to hint at the smuggler's presence in that area. These visual improvements also allow for more of PUBG's lore to shine.
